From what I observed from a distance, canoes pinned up in front of root wads and log jams vertical jigging I think minnows (never really know with them). I just don’t think I could ever justify my self to fish for bass let alone smallmouth with live bait.

Yes I was. Tried to avoid the crowds. But living water did a huge float yesterday that came in 3 waves of about 30-40 canoes kayaks per wave.

Know a Mennonite that got a Ticket for Smallie quarter inch too short. He wasn’t happy.

Went out and found them tonight, same stretch. Whopper plopper. I normally fish a jig or a weightless trick would. Learning I need to probably fish things with treble hooks. Does anyone throw soft swimbaits?

Live minnows can make a bad fisherman look good.

In our world catch and release are the norm.  Unfortunately, in the rest of the world, catch and release fishermen are the minority. Many people have the “I keep everything I catch”, mentality. Found out the hard way when I let people to fish my ponds, it got pretty ugly. 

Just wish they’d target the Asian carp instead.

Well being old school I'm one that Fishes and Hunts for meat. To me it is stupid to waste time any other way. But that is my way of thinking.

oneshot, most people have time and money to burn so why bother cleaning fish? You can buy them China fish at the food mart ready to cook. People feeding themselves is almost un-American. You need to learn fish torture- stab them with treble hooks, hang em in dry air while looking for the camera and take two minutes worth of pictures then "kindly and gently" return them to the water"unharmed" ; it's the American way of "Sportsmanship".

I am very biased and have never hidden i.  I love to fish creeks and rivers for smallmouth when I can, but man it sure hurts to see someone keep a stringer of smallies, may be perfectly legal but I hate it just the same.  Of course I hate to see them with a big stringer of gogglers too, but more because of the fact that is a mess that I won't get to eat at end of the day if I want.  I am quote happy to catch smallies and gogglers and release them and go home with some green sunfish or LM bass.  But more likely I will just go home to a bag of thawed out crappie fillets.  LM bass fillets are great at work fish frys.

Not saying I don’t keep fish. When I’m not on the river, I crappie fish. I take home and clean a lot of crappie. I believe some fish are made for sport, some for the frying pan. For me, if it’s a LM or or smallie, it’s going back. It takes a long time to grow a big smallmouth.
