I tie these and they are similar to the butt monkey but with maribou instead of rabbit

That's good looking!  I'll bet it will be lighter and easier to cast too.

Yeah shed water a little easier that way. I have refined the head to a more bulky head to move mpre water and combat how fast it sinks since it is so light.  So far the smallies like it enough
