Was a tough holiday weekend on TR for me

stayed at Port of Kimberling never been there before and a really nice campsite and area. will be going back.

fishing wise we really stunk it up bad. fished shooner creek and fisher creek. Schooner on sat eavning and only caught 1 15" smallie on a jig while reeling it back to the boat in about 7' of water. kind of odd. so thought they wanted something moving so went to spinner bait, crank bait and a glide bait. not a sniffle at any of them. stayed on the water till about 7 pm or so tried some top water before we headed back in and not even a swipe.

next morning (sunday) got on the water early and headed to fisher. threw a top water on the big point where the creek arms divide nothing. moved around to the eastern side of the creek from that point. tossed a spinnerbait around quite a bit and lost one about 3-1/2lbs right on the bank just shook the bait out. moved around in there quite a bit trying everything I could think of. Wacky senko, ned, football jig in 20+ off points, glide baits, small swimbaits deep. nothing. wife finally caught a 12" largie on a shad color crankbait back in a pocket.

headed back in about 10:30 when the party crowd started coming out.

Monday morning went back out at first light headed back to Fisher. and never caught a thing. made it back to the small cove where port of Kimberling campers boat ramp is and saw something chasing shad on top. tossed in a spinner bait in the boil and caught a 10" spot. only fish we caught all day.

been really tough for me this summer. im not good at fishing deep and I know that's what most are using. Spoons, Drop Shots and so on and those are my 2 biggest weaknesses as far as techniques go. I did get around a deep dock to try the spoon in Fisher creek and when I pulled up..no fishing around docks allowed so moved on. by that time the big boats were out and we were headed back in.

 

hopefully one of these days ill figure the Spoon and Drop Shot out.

I don't know that area you're fishing in, but I know that down by Big M where I usually fish it can be really tough unless you're on the right spots.  It's a tough time of year too.

maybe i am wrong, but i would think that only certain portions of marinas would be off limits to fishing.  just because someone has a dock there, it is still public water.

On Table Rock, only commercial docks - marinas - are protected. Any private dock, even if it is next door to the marina, is fair game, and subject only to good manners.

Not much love for the wife and me either.  Could find fish here and there, but not any numbers even around bait.  Tried the drop shot, both plastic and the real deal.  Caught a few on the live worms, but all short. Gave up and tried trolling, caught a keeper crappie, but again everything else was small. Probably didn't help that the boss wanted to sleep in and the earliest we got on the water was 8:30😖 Both Sunday and Monday.

Oh well, we'll be back in 3 weeks and the fishing should improve, plus the traffic won't be as bad!

Just a tip and I hope it works for you all.  First take a look at times at Buster Loving's facebook post.  If you don't, I will give you this  tip.  When fishing the KC or even point 9 to the dam, don't be afraid to throw a 5/8 to 3/4 football jig with as big a trailer as you can come up with.  I'm using the Nicholes or a baby brush hog.  Put the boat in 35' to 40' foot on the long gravel points and if you cannot identify them your beyond help.  You should be throwing into about 15'.  

Your not fishing a derby so no controversy, just slowly drag that bait out and back to that 40' number.  Buster has been catching monsters up to 7 lbs. on a pretty regular basis.   Had a client the other day that had a dozen Jaws over 3 pounds on a single morning 4 hr. trip.

Bill you are right on about the jig and area i.e. long gravel points........

went today and there was a "reasonable" top water until the fog lifted then they wanted to stay deeper. That is when the jig and the drop shot came into play....we probably caught 20 or so before it got to hot since there was no wind.

Ill have to remember that Bill. I tried the Football jig but only had the boat in about 25' or so so guess I should have moved out more.my gut said I was fishing too shallow and I should move out more..guess I should listen more.

Those mid lake creeks are money with a spinnerbait after dark too.  When you went in that first night was probably when you should've been getting started.  That big jewel jolt spinnerbait with the big colorado blade can be deadly there after dark.  Also, I'd think that big wobbler of Bo's or a dark chatterbait with a big trailer would hammer them.  This summer we've caught them pretty good right on the bank late at night like that in the KC area.
