I was out for a few minutes for halftime.  The specks were up in the sky above me, cackling to each other headed to Texas or wherever.   Made me totally miss being a waterfowler.  What a great time of year this is.

I was out grilling some burgers at the start of the game and could hear something cackling up above.

Mysteriously no, she was in a pretty good mood. Even with my behavior the previous day. Confusing.

Snows off and on today during daylight hours.  It was cloudy all day here and I never saw them.  But let there be no doubt, the migration has begun.

Couple of big groups flew right over downtown Springfield this afternoon making all kinds of noise.

Nothing flying around hear. This front should move some. Heard some specks & snows moving through a couple weeks ago. Numbers are doubling every time Forbes surveys the Mississippi, but not near peak yet.

North wind/cool front like this one coming through usually does.  Especially early like this.  Later on you just never know.  Late birds move when it gets cold enough to freeze them out of a place to sit.  Or so it seems. Early teal have already moved.  They were all over the White a few weeks back.  Don't be fooled though, they can show up anytime and anywhere.

Hunting Shanks Sunday. Scheduled a meeting in Moscow Mills and Troy this Am. Drove through Shanks midday but did not see a single duck or goose. Some plume birds.  No cover out there at all, gotta toss more grass on my A-frame. Think 80% of the corn fields are still standing. Sheet Water and Standing crops everywhere between STC and Hannibal.

Good luck.  Ted Shanks can be a tough hunt.  Or it can be a great one, very weather and wind dependent.
