Grew up on the Mississippi, it is reasonably tame, and the risk that exists is usually worth it.

The Missouri is downright dangerous and doesn't offer anything to make it worth the risk.   IMO

I've spent many hours on the Missouri in the dark running to islands to set up decoys.  18.5 x 60 semi vee with 50 HP Yamaha Pro.  Spent a lot more hours day and night setting and running throw lines for flatheads.  Never once feared for my life.  Killed a lot of ducks and geese and a metric ton of good catfish.  Lived in Jefferson City and it was 15 minutes from my house to the ramp.  Now when it gets big chunks of ice in it - no thanks.

16ft Crestliner Canadian, with a 2002 evinrude 70 prop.  What are folks fishing for down there? My brother and I have always discussed looking for walleye below the dams and such on and around the mississippi, but have never pulled the trigger.  I have always been intimidated by the Mississippi and Missouri!

That boat will be fine anywhere.  Do learn to read the navigation buoys and lights so you can find/stay in the channel.  Basic thing to remember is keep the red on your right when going upstream.

Sounds crazy I know but the biggest hazard you are likely to encounter are those carp that sky all over the place.  They are really not a joke when you are running at speed.

Don't go up the Illinois.  Trust me.
