I have a love hate relationship with nanofil.  Love the castability and how long it lasts.  Hate tying leaders on - I use the Alberto and it works good - but I still get hung up and break off a few times and wind up having to retie.  Also seem to have more trouble with the nanofil looping on the spool and creating a mess.

I'll have to find some.  Best bourbon I've had lately is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.  It's good stuff.

I remain Very Happy with Nanofil. It does have a few negatives, but for me, the positives Greatly outweighs the negatives.

I am not one to stand pat however. I have a reel spooled with yellow Suffix 832. I am trying Berkeley Ultra 8 on a spinning rod. I bought a saltwater reel (Size 30) and went with Power Pro Super Slick V2 in 30 lb. I will give that a whirl at latest on 1/7/20.

i still mostly use an Alberto. Uni to Uni is plenty strong enough and easier to tie, but it bums me out feeling it bang it’s way out of the guides. I do also use the 3 turn surgeon’s when I’m feeling lazy. Noticeably weaker than Alberto, but I don’t remember one ever failing on a fish.

I am planing keeping my NanofIL for the same reasons as Ham, and like Ham the next trip to he city may well find me with a spool.of the 832 suffix, unless I weaken and buy another Nanofil.

Have you ever gone straight nano to the jig for trout?

I have come to the conclusion that simple is best.  I don't use any line anymore but McCoys Mean Green.  Don't use any knot but a palomar.  Don't use spinning gear anymore because I don't want to worry about line twist.  Well...I do still own a couple spinning reels spooled with Power Pro, and I MIGHT use one a couple times a year, but never use a leader so I don't need to know any knots that connect leader to main line.  Fly fishing, I only use fluorocarbon tippet.  Connect tippet to leader with a blood knot, 3 or 4 twists on each side.  Use a palomar knot most of the time, an improved clinch knot once in a while.  I want a knot I can tie in my sleep, or that I can tie when my fingers feel like popsicles.  To me the best knot is one you can tie flawlessly with consistency.

What knot for the fly?  Palomar wouldn’t be the best for that.

Palomar is perfect for the way I fish nymphs.  For dry flies, improved clinch knot with only 2 or 3 twists.

No Sir. I don’t want to burn thru nano on lure changes AND I’m not completely comfortable with braid/nano straight to lure.
