MOPanfisher Posted January 2, 2020 Author Posted January 2, 2020 I have tied Nanofil directly to jigs while crappie fishing. Used it that way for the first few years before going to a leader. Nanofil chafes and abrades quickly against rocks and sticks or even on a fishes mouth. I have when not taking a moment to re tie broken off on a hook set. snagged in outlet 3 1

fishinwrench Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I use a figure 8 knot on teeny tiny stuff, and a no-slip loop on everything else. I've gotten to where I can do a loop knot on stuff down to 16's on the stream, and down to 18's-20's if I'm rigging at camp or while sitting on the tailgate. Flys on a loop knot are 100% the way to go, I always get more/better bites when using one. Ya gotta make that loop small though. No bigger than 3x the size of the hook eye if you can pull it off.
Mitch f Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 In my humble opinion most people use too many turns on fluorocarbon...it’s not made for that "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

netboy Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 For my fly leaders I use a nail knot for the leader to fly line knot and then a small tippet ring for the leader to tippet connection with a simple clinch knot on each end.

Bushbeater Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Just finishing up a new rod for Crappie and maybe trout. Watching epoxy dry. Bought a Daiwa BG 1500 to use. The line I bought is Suffix Nanobraid 4# https://www.rapala.com/sufix/braid/nanobraid/nanobraid/NanoBraid.html and it's only .003" diameter. Should I use a leader for trout and how would you tie line that thin? Or should I just save that line and spool it with Maxima 4# Ultragreen?

That would be 8x You're not gonna find smaller mono/flouro than that. And if you did it would be 1lb. test or less. Something that is 8x and 4# test, or 5x and 10#test would be great, I want some of that ! Wonder how the knot strength and abrasion resistance is?
