Help a newbie

I am planning a fishing trip to the White River.  Have been going to outpost in Canada with Dad and son for last few years.  Wanted to find something easier on My Dad.  Have fished the White a few times but it has been decades.  Staid at Gaston's once, camped once and hotel the other time.  Another group is joining us who has limited fishing experience.  Was considering renting a house on or near the river instead of staying at a Resort and finding someone to guide us.  Probably 3 days. 

I am planning on doing this late spring or summer.  Is there a time to avoid or target?  Does it matter if we get a place close to the spillway or down river Cotter area? 

Any advice is appreciated.

Might look into Riley's Outfitters.  Many of us have stayed there numerous times.  I was just there in October.  He has a bunch of different rental options.  Talk to Miles.

lots of good VRBO homes and lodges.  Cranors Lodge is a great place on the river to stay and guides can pick you up right at the lodge, its roughly 10 river miles below the dam.  Just my opinion but Gastons is getting a bit dated, their restaurant is still good but the rooms need a refresh.  Just avoid major holidays as it brings out the crowds.  Great fishing 12 months a year so theres not really a time not to come and a time to specifically target.  Everything depends on water flow from the dam and that's what drives the fishing.  Big fish love the higher flows although your numbers of fish will go down, on lower flows you will have big numbers but might not have as good a quality.

Riley's, We stay there several times a year. Neat family that makes you feel at home. Gavin ,the son or Miles ,the Dad are great guides. If you can't get in there, there is another guide next door that has top of the line everything and a large boat that is very comfortable. Danny Barker, email is barker002@centurytel.net. Another Riley's fan here.  They rent boats and also can guide you.  I'd look at getting a reservation in soon if you're coming in spring/summer.

Thanks for the advice.  I am glad to see so many responses.  I have looked at VRBO and will definitely check out Riley's.  Hopefully, this will work out and I can keep my annual father/son/grandson trip going as long as possible.
