Quillback Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Must be a MO thing, I've tested it several times and no alcohol is present. But, that is from an Arkansas station. tjm 1

None, not even once in the 8+ years that I have been actually testing it. I normally just do a "Look and Sniff" test unless somebody makes a big deal about how they "only purchase non-ethanol fuel....blah-blah-blah". The really crazy thing is that even if I do the test in front of them they still don't believe it. It's like that "NON-ETHANOL" sign has a spiritual effect on them. No amount of common sense reasoning can sway them. It's called brain****. 😐
MOPanfisher Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 I think a lot of people buy premium grade fuel thinking it is Ethanol Free. Just because it's premium don't mean it's ethanol free. Plus I know at leaSt one person who used Ethano Free fuel and then added I believe it was a mercury fuel system cleaner, which was mosy Alcahol, might be a different Alcahol that I don't know. I would like to test some from where I get fuel.just to see. Where does one get a tester and hiw much is it.

How does that work? Would a fuel additive like merc sells trigger an alcohol reading?
fishinwrench Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 You can make a tester out of any glass jar. If you want to know the exact percentage then you'll have to buy one of these little test bottles.....or do some math.

Not 10+% unless you're dumping in 5 gallons of it. 😂 It works by separating the fossil fuel from the alcohol by using WATER to separate the two. Alcohol mixes with water, fossil fuels don't. Water separating fuel filters are yet another brain****, for reasons that I shouldn't have to explain.....but bygod everybody demands that they have one. 🙄
tjm Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 I might buy my non ethanol gas from the same place that Quillback does and every time I've tested it over 20 years or so it has been alcohol free. I just use a pint jar with masking tape on it, so I just see if ethanol is present or not, but when it is, it likely is 10%. I started testing back before Mo. made ethanol mandatory, after damaging two chainsaws, with new saws and ethanol compatible oils, I'm not as concerned as I used to be. I'm so close to Ar. that most of my gas is bought there. Quillback 1
tjm Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Water removing or anti freeze additives like Heet can be all or mostly alcohols. So they will show but unless it's quite a bit of it or you are very careful, you might not notice. 10% is 12.8 oz per gal.
