Targa98 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 I am not in any way bashing this trail first off. I fished this series 2 years ago and was very disappointed in a couple of the summer tourn. They try to run it correct in August with the smaller limit and no culling rule. However at the weigh in i over heard more than 1 team stating they had several dead fish in the live wells and basically culled that way. We fished it as directed and brought in 1 fish short of a limit bc we didnt want to keep a smaller keeper on that day. I understand we only hurt ourselves by not keeping several that we could of but it made me very sceptical of the tourn as a whole so I havent fished it again since. Again this is only MY experience i had but we would have made plenty of money that day had we kept our last fish as we beat a lot of the teams that had 1 more. It is what it is and I still enjoy my time out there either way

It is what it is and I still enjoy my time out there either way I never heard any of the TD's say anything about a no cull rule last year. Even though it is a lake wide rule during the summer. And they were all 5 fish limit tourneys last year. As far as dead fish, I just dont get how people just let them die. I fished a ton of summer stuff last year and almost everyone of my fish were in 30-50ft of water and i never had any die on me. Ice the livewell in the morning with rejuvenade, keep the same water all day on recirc. Fizz the fish, I put weighted cull balls on them so they stay upright. I saw a lot of dead fish at weigh ins last summer, but happy to say mine swam off like rockets. Benefit tournaments were by far the worst for dead fish. The fish def. dont benefit one bit from it Champ188 and Royal Blue 2
Targa98 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 I 100% agree with you and don't know how it happens either. We also never let one die but again we fished it 2 years ago. It may have been a 5 fish limit as I am not 100 % positive but I do remember for sure that he said the no cull rule was in effect as it was lake wide. Again it was not the directors fault and more just me being irritated listening to a couple fellas talk about it. They did not attempt to release them and were gonna take them to eat which is fine as long as your within the rules for me. I suppose with 2 people in the boat they were going off their daily limits and never returned one to the lake so maybe they thought it was all good, but by Tourn rules it just caught me the wrong way. Again I have 0 issues with tournaments as i Love to get out and keep my competitive side fed. I only get to do a few a year so Ive just kept it down to a select few. AIA and BBB is about it for me this year.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 Last year in mid summer out of 26 boats I only saw 2 dead fish in one of the USA bassins. But i was at a benefit tournament the same week and they were hiding bags of deads ones in the back of a truck. IT was a massacre. I think a lot of the benefit tourneys, it is a bunch of guys out for a good cause that dont know how to take care of bass in a live well because they never do it
DADAKOTA Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Blaming the tourney is easy. Most of the blame falls on the folks that catch the fish and how they take care of them. After dragging them around all day with little to no care you can't expect the tourney directors to perform miracles and save them all. Champ188 1
Champ188 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Am planning to fish a couple of them but not this Sunday. And we will most certainly take tender loving care of our fish. Archdale is all over it with his recipe of ice plus a quality additive in the morning and recirc the same water all day. crazy4fishin, mixermarkb and Royal Blue 3
