Sighting In Rifles

Well if you want perfect dead center windage zero....then you'd better sight-in windage at your furthest range distance.    That's all I'm saying.

There isn't a single package of little dinosaurs left in my 5 county area.   I'm hoarding them like my neighbors are hoarding TP.

I always sight in at 200 yards.  That way I may be a bit high at 100 or less but can comfortably take longer shots.

I sight in my .270 1.5" high at 125 yards.  Why 125 yards you may ask?  It's because 125 is the distance from the front of my shop to the spot I shoot here in the backyard.  And because I like to do things in my own peculiar way.

Much of the time deer cross a timber line that is about 240 yards from my lawn chair which I set up by my truck.  Any closer and they might detour.

It helps when you know your area, where my wife "hunts" I have measured the various distances and longest would be about 125 yards, her little .243 is dead on at 100 yards, and when she occasionally gives me the rifle messed up is why I missed (very rare any more) I simply put the rifle over a bench and I have a big hay bale 60 yards away.  2 quick shots will tell the story.

All mine are considered Short Range. 30-30, Slug Guns and Muzzleloaders.

Our Range only goes 100 yards.

I have always sighted mine in working on sub minute groups at 200 yds.  It has taken months of experimenting with powder primers and bullets to get it right for some rifles.   Then there is my grandson who has his sighted in at 650 yds. But that’s ok cause that’s what he does for a living.

I wish I could get a job being a 650 yard target shooter.
