Members Jhenson86 Posted July 24, 2020 Members Posted July 24, 2020 Hey guys looking for some info on the devils backbone/big m area. Wanting to come down and drop shot/ spoon fish. Was Thinking about checking this area out. Just looking for advice on where to start as it’s a 1 1/2 drive from my place to big m. Also kinda hoping that maybe there would be less wake boat traffic that direction. I typically fish around aunts creek or Indian and it’s just a zoo right now.
rps Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 The Backbone has many hot weather patterns for both walleye and bass. First, it is a very large J. From the point that it starts, head to the sycamores just left of the boat houses on the far shore. Then it begins to turn left and it extends well left until almost kissing the far left bluff before it falls into the channel. Check the fall off into the channel. Check the side of the bone to the lake side, not far from where it starts. Check the tree tops on the Rock Creek side on the out side bend. Check the hump of the turn on the tree edge. The bass and walleye tend to do one of two things this time of year. They suspend in tree tops on the edges or hover near the bottom just shallow of those edges. The Emerald Beach flats and points just down stream of there are worth a look, Quillback fishes Panther and Owl Creek near there, PM him for that info. Good luck. dan hufferd, magicwormman, Zulu and 1 other 3 1
Quillback Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Rps covered the Backbone very well. I haven't been over in that area in a while, but have a buddy that fishes around there on a regular basis and things are tough. Assuming you're a daytime fisherman, you want to get out at the crack of dawn. You're still going to get wake boats starting later in the morning, not as bad an further down lake, but there will be some.

Members Jhenson86 Posted July 25, 2020 Author Members Posted July 25, 2020 Thanks for the info didn’t make it to the backbone. Put in at shell knob with plans to boat their. Had a electrical problem on my engine think the voltage regulater fried and caught fire. Have been trolling back to the knob since about 7 this morning. Have caught one Kentucky on a dropshot and about a 3lb black on a swim jig..... it’s getting hot!

I have publicly shared three spots, now. The bone, the flooded timber across from HI, and the flat at Eagle Rock. All three are community holes.

I have not publicly discussed Owl Creek, Roaring River, Stubblefield Branch, Jolmes, Devils Dive, the power lines, Haddock Creek, the Holiday Island cove, or the graveyard. Those are not really community holes, and anyone who discovers their secrets should keep them to himself. Quillback, Hughesy, magicwormman and 1 other 3 1
Members Jhenson86 Posted July 26, 2020 Author Members Posted July 26, 2020 Thanks rps for the info! I knew nothing about the area just happened across it looking for something new to scope out. Although I didn’t make it down that way I hope to in the future. Here is a pic of the black my nephew caught on our slow but still fun trip back to the knob. It wasn’t all bad I found a lot of different features of the lake I otherwise would have scooted across at 60mph. m&m, MGP, rps and 2 others 5
