top_dollar Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 My poor dog got bit by a snake down at the river! Her front leg is mangled pretty bad. She is finally starting to put weight on it though, and the swelling has gone down significantly. The vet said to keep an eye on the bruising to make sure it doesnt spread. Ill try to upload a few pics. It is mostly my fault for allowing her to run through the thickets and such on the river banks.
fishinwrench Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Every dog I've ever had, except one, has suffered a snakebite at one point or another. It sucks for them, and for you. Terrierman 1
Mitch f Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Hope she gets better! Poor thing top_dollar 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Terrierman Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Dogs just naturally hate snakes. I wish they were afraid of them like us but nope, that's not the deal. Hope your dog gets well soon. I've had way too many dogs v. copperhead experiences. Nearly all were fine. top_dollar 1
fishinwrench Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 My ex-FIL dog got it right in the face. Head swelled up like a basketball, and the dog couldn't eat for almost 2 weeks. We thought she was a goner..... but she pulled through just fine. No vet or anything, just one shot of the antibiotic that his neighbor gave to his hogs. top_dollar 1
top_dollar Posted September 15, 2020 Author Posted September 15, 2020 Thanks. She is doing OK. The leg will probably heal up just fine. She's bummed out wearing the lampshade collar of shame. 🤣 tho1mas, Daryk Campbell Sr, Terrierman and 1 other 4
Members Cwallis Posted September 16, 2020 Members Posted September 16, 2020 Dogs usually heal up just fine from a snake bite. No worries.
Members Keiththom Posted September 16, 2020 Members Posted September 16, 2020 How do you know it's from a snake bite? Just wondering.
