Hey guys!

I promised my father in law and brother in law a fishing trip as soon as I could and this weekend is shaping up to be our first good shot. They live closer to the upper end of the lake and so the plan is to try and fish that area. Of course, my hope is just to get them on some fish and have a blast (size is of no concern). I know things are changing pretty rapidly right now. Anyone have any best guesses for this weekend as far as a pattern? Thanks in advance!

Big M and going upstream:

There are always fish somewhere on the Devils Backbone.

The first 200 yards of Owl Creek and Panther Creek and the long runouts between the two.

The flat at the mouth of the Roaring River always has fish on it somewhere; also try the deep docks and the point of the first big U turn; try a Ned between the docks in the branch off to the right as well.

There will be fish on the steep side opposite Fletchers Devils Dive resort.

That will be a very full day.

Thanks for the tips, RPS! That will be a lot of ground to cover. Pumped to be able to fish that section of lake as I’ve almost never been there.

I was up there a couple of days ago and it was slow for me, had 6 sub-legals.  the fish appear to be scattered and in the main channel feeding on shad.  If the water is calm you'll see them chasing shad on top.  They are really finnicky, they are feeding on inch and a half long shad and are keyed on them.  A small fluke worked best for me, had quite a few bites on it, but they were just tapping it for the most part.  I can't find a top water that they like.

Pretty much pulled my hair out trying to figure out something they would like.  Didn't try a small rooster tail, Road Runner, or marabou jig.

Next time out I am ignoring those fish out in the channel.  If they make me mad enough I might have to go nuclear on them and break out the crawlers.

I was kind of afraid of that. I've heard (and read) some of those varying reports. And I know with this cool nights this week, it's probably changing FAST. Definitely won't hesitate to pick up the road runner though. Good intel!

Yesterday was meaner out there than a Rattle Snake.  We had 24 fish with one keeper.  Lots on top water but they were rats.  Tried whats been working and we caught fish but man they were bitty bugs.

Still have not decided where we will go this morning but I think it will be painful.  Caught them all yesterday on either top water or a jig.

There are two big derby's here today and maybe they will show a pattern.  Anglers in Action and Joe Bass i believe, watch the results and see if anyone of them spill the beans.  I'm going to.

At first I thought it was an April Fool’s joke when Bill said buzz baits and Plopper’s on the bank but I’m a loyal disciple and nothing else was working worth spit so......

We didn’t get started until afternoon but hit a couple pockets across from Stillwater’s resort and tried the Plopper. While it wasn’t fast and furious it was fun and that’s more than I can say about the previous days.

Only got two fish to the boat and they were lil’ thirteen inchers but had five others on briefly - one of which was a really nice largemouth that was easily three pounds or more and one other certain keeper. The other three were of the thirteen to fourteen inch variety. Why they came undone is one of life’s little mysteries as all were pulling pretty good for three to five seconds and then they weren’t.

Unfortunately, a couple wake boats and pontoons pulling tubes ran us off one of them yelling to his buddies, “Watch me put this F’er (us) on the bank!” and he almost did.

We hit a few more of the bigger coves on the north side between there and point 5 but only had one more swirl.

Nonetheless, if we weren’t heading back today I know what I’d be doing.

Thanks as always for the tip Bill although I wanna know who the guy was that decided it was time to shift gears from dropshots thirty five feet deep to buzzer’s on the bank and why?

Heckuva transition if you ask me!

See y’all again in three weeks.

AND you’re welcome for the weather!😎
