Will S. Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 My remote switch on the bow to tilt motor up/down has a 4 wire multi connector that is green with corrosion. Are these worth cleaning with something like "DEOXIT" or just remove connector & splice thru. thx
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 My unprofessional opinion is to splice it. If you don't need to remove it, plugs just cause issues. Someone else on here had a small fire on board due to a issue with a plug. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. It got hot and started smoking quite a ways from the ramp. I replaced those nuts with butt splicers and the problem was solved. Somewhat. Thanks to @fishinwrench My trolling motor (55 pound thrust) is still pulling more than the wiring in the pond prowler is able to handle but it just gets warm now. I keep meaning to sell the 55 and buy a 35 but I just haven’t done it. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
fishinwrench Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 Cut the plug off, replace the switch (because it's probably green and crusty inside too), and install spade connectors on each wire. Goop it up with liquid electrical tape when all back together. You can eliminate a potential fire there in the future by terminating the black wire to the switch. Its only purpose is to provide a ground to illuminate that tiny little light on the switch (that you don't need). You only need a red, a blue, and a green. If there's no ground then there's nothing for it to short out on. Deadstream and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
