Not being able to poor line into 4rivers is really hurting our duck hunting this year.

weve been hunting at the farm west of rich hill but not many birds in the air again this weekend.  Just a couple groups of gadwalls...and some high flyers.

we’re still doing good on the crows...we must’ve had 50 in the air this morning early

if we don’t get drawn this week into 4rivers...I guess we’ll try Stockton but my expectations there are pretty low

Saturday, three of us hunted a farm pond about 8 miles East of Stockton Lake. Had a 15 mph WNW wind blowing that made it seem a lot colder than the 36 degrees on the thermometer. This was my first outing this year and the second for my two co-hunters. We managed to harvest 11. A mixed bag consisting of 4 mallards with the rest being gaddies and spooners. All arrived in groups of 2-4 and no high flying flocks were seen so these most likely were local ducks. The first 35 minutes provided the action as we took 8 and then spent 2 more hours to acquire the last 3. We decided to return on Sunday and it was a different story meaning no wind...not even a breeze. Saw only 6 ducks in 2 hours and they snubbed our set landing near the dam out of range.  At 9 AM we decided to call it a wrap and as we were picking up our stuff a single gadwall flew in on top of us and became the only bird taken for the day.

I have hunted Stockton a few times with my boat and haven't had any luck. It makes sense that it is holding ducks but I've just not been able to find them. This year we participated for the first time in the blind drawing at Truman Lake and will be hunting there in the near future. We've heard some good reports about Truman over the years and thought utilizing the drawing would be a good way to start out and learn about it first hand.

Some are reporting the ducks have become nocturnal and some say they are still holding in Northern Missouri due to moderate temps. Hopefully this recent cold snap and predicted fronts will change their habits and move them towards South Missouri.

All I got...Good luck and safe hunting to all,

We never do very good at Stockton but it is a fun style of hunting...we take the boat to get to our spot but don’t hunt out of it....we just hide along the shore in the buckbrush and driftwood...Most of the shooting is at low flying diving ducks...they sneak up on you and they are fast flyers.  so it’s fun

Good luck at Truman...ive hunted it but it’s been 10 years ago...there used to be a guy based in Clinton that took Me and my 2 boys a couple times when they were little...he would take us and cook breakfast for the boys.  He had a big boat with hard sided blind on it...and an Rv stove/oven in it to cook the eggs, bacon and biscuits.  It was a great time.  It was pricey but we still talk about it sometimes...so it was worth it.

We went in deepwater area with him but I think Osceola area would be good too...good luck and let us know how you do... thanks

Hunting Four Rivers tomorrow. I'll let you know. It's been pretty bad the last two weeks or so. Managed two limits in there, miraculously, but I saw new birds this morning. Finally hit below zero in NoDak so that helps.

Hunted 2B at 4R a week ago.  Saw lots of birds as they flew in and out of the refuge.  Other than that it was a bust.  Nodaway valley not much better.  Saw lots of large flocks headed south yesterday.  Snows were migrating last night.

I hear ya...We hunted 2b a couple times last year...you definitely see a lot of birds but there wasn’t enough cover...so we struggled in there.  I think we should’ve used the boat to get in...but hunted out of layout blinds.  it’s pretty depressing to see all those birds and not be able to get them to work the decoys.

we could’ve went a couple times early this year With a buddy who got drawn...but we didn’t go because I thought there wasn’t enough water to use the boat...I regret the decision now...we didn’t get drawn again this week.

Got in with my boat no problem.  May need to use sleds to get off the boat channels.  Guys I went with call it Never 2B hunted again.  Didn't help that there was several thousand ducks using 2A with nary a soul hunting it.

Well today was pretty miserable. 20-degrees and had to break 1/2-inch of ice in 3 the entire way in. I had 2A and buddy had 3. 2A is corn but completely locked up. Had a few solo drakes give us a look and we took pass shots but these birds are stale as can be. Moved to an open area in 3 but the hide in that pool and 2A is just abysmal.

Saw some big groups flying but they were going to where they've been going for weeks. There were quite a few people in 4 and we heard 3 shots outside of ours. Brutal for everyone right now.

We had reservation in Muddy Creek. Never hunted it. I’ll try anywhere once. Little over a mile in. Not much flying 4 of us got one hen. Don’t think I’ll be back there. Ryan what kind of blind are you using?  We had a good day in 2a a couple weeks ago

The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check

We didn't even hunt 2A because it was frozen solid. It looks great, But no birds were even looking at it today. We have Invisimans but alas..
