Nope. It looked fine to me. I knew it got shallow there, but I thought the water was still high enough to get over it. The "right" way to run that spot is to head down river for a 100 yards, swing left and run up the right side and then cut over to the middle and go through a gap in a rock dike. It was just a bad decision when I knew better.

Sometimes it's hard to tell how shallow a run is especially in winter time with low flat light and a little riffle on the water.

The red line is the normal way I run this spot. I took the yellow route like a doofus. Even if I had just stayed left (pink line) I think I could have made it through without any issues. It was literally the worst path I could have taken. Definitely one of the dumbest calls I've made while driving a jet boat.

I always wear a pfd and kill switch.  But now I'm going to rig a step to help get back in the boat.  Summer time is no big deal but with a bunch of winter clothes and boots on it might be a different story.  So I just want to make sure.  Seems like my buddies fish less and less so if I want to go I have to go alone.

I never had a jet boat or got stuck with one.  But I have thought about getting a jet a few times and thought if I got stuck I would make sure I had a hand sledge,  a couple pieces of 1" steel pipe of 3' or more in length and portable winch to get unstuck. Just  hammer the pipe into the river bed, hook up the winch and pull it out.  I am sure people have this type of setup in their boats for the same reason.

I ran across a guy stuck in his jet once.  He had the winch but the nearest tree was about 150 yards away.😂

That would be cool if you have a big boat.  I can drag my boat with 1 hand though.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
