FishnDave Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 After getting skunked fishing for stocker trout the previous weekend, I tried a new-to-me urban lake...hoping some fish would be willing to play this late in the year. Back in central Iowa, you see, the lakes would often be freezing over about now...as they currently are. Anyway...I was pleased to catch some fish. Nothing very big, but they were still very fun on the fly rod. 7 Largemouth Bass and 3 Bluegills. I then headed to a local creek to see if there was anything going on there. Well, Friday evening and overnight into the early hours of Saturday, we got some pretty good rain in the St. Louis area. The creek was high, fast, muddy, and cold. I didn't get skunked, which was a surprise. I caught 2 creek chubs...biggest measured 11". Daryk Campbell Sr, Johnsfolly, laker67 and 1 other 4

laker67 Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Looks like you had fun. I had no idea that creek chubs grew that big. FishnDave and Johnsfolly 2

FishnDave Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 Hit a new-to-me lake Saturday (12/19/20). Got skunked. Then I went to a lake that skunked me the last time I visited it. Caught 2 trout and 4 crappies. Johnsfolly and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Johnsfolly Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Nice fish @FishnDave even though you only caught a couple, better than none . FishnDave 1
FishnDave Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 Yeah, at the first lake, there were a number of other anglers. Only one guy was catching any trout. He was catching one about every hour. At the 2nd lake, two guys caught at least 3 while I was there. Not sure what they were using, but they appeared to be bottom fishing, which wouldn't be legal, but at least they were releasing their fish according to the rules. It was a long time between their bites too. I had another nice fish on all the way almost to shore, but I never got a look at it before it shook free.
Ham Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I can’t fish that long for that little reward. Dave, if you’re willing to travel, I can put you on fish. snagged in outlet 3 and FishnDave 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
