Those are some weird looking fish... We used to see them swimming around our underwater lights at our house on North Padre island and they looked like birds flying in the water.

They look even more strange when they "walk" along the bottom.

At the halfway point of the year and we combined all of our species into one list, we would be over 130+ species. We have caught at least 17 species in common. A few like the bantam and redspotted sunfish were caught from either the same pond or general location. We all caught yellow perch, which I probably should have expected knowing that there is a population in the White that @Ham fishes. Possible that we may all catch a longnose gar (or not 😒) this year and not just @FishnDave. Out this way I only really have access to the longnose, so I would have to travel some to get a shortnose gar. Pretty sure that Ham will get a skipjack herring at some point.

Its been a pretty satisfying year so far.  As soon as the R&D is completed on Alligator Crappie...I want to catch one of those, too.

JF #91 (Lifer) Bluehead Chub, Necomis leptocephalus

Bluehead Chub (#91) - Passage Crk VA - 03Jul21.jpg

We caught a bunch of females and juvenile males. We focused looking at the top of the heads for tubercles or scarring. I never caught a nice male with tubercles, but the scarring on this male assured that we were catching blueheads. since the scars did not extend below the nostrils.

Again the tubercles do not extend below the nostrils or on the sides of the face.

Another male in breeding attire. Only one caught during this trip. Was hoping for one myself. Pretty cool looking fish.
