It was a good day...We were in pool 3...busted a bunch out on the way in...about 3/4 of them were teal we thought.  We went all the way to the back of it...busting skim ice as we went.  It’s pretty bare back there but we did our best.

there were 14 jillion birds of all types in the air...but there is a slew of mallards. we were able to get some of them to finish.  But a lot would circle a couple times...cup their wings...and look like they were going drop right in the hole...then they’d either get scared off by someone else shooting or just lose interest and be gone...then we’d say...dang...should’ve shot.  the teal never worked the decoys.

We hunted out of the boat the first couple of hours....then picked up and moved 100 yards away from the boat and onto marsh seats...it was probably a little better off the marsh seats...but not nearly as comfortable.  We picked up at 1.

we’re up north tomorrow...and planning to take the layout blinds.  I know a good place we can use them in our pool tomorrow

Highlight of the day was a lone snow goose...might have been a juvenile.  They’re not as big on the ground as they appear in the air.

If we were better callers...we might’ve finished more of them than we did.  But we’re timid with the calling....once they start dropping...we kind of stop calling

The birds really wanted in pool 4...bunch birds in 2a too on the way out.

we should’ve stayed at the Apache and made a weekend out of it...but hindsight is 20/20

The hide in 3 and 2A is atrocious. Unless you have Invisimans or layout boats they flare almost every single time.

At least you are calling some. Tough to hunt em and frustrating. The mental  dissection/figuring what you did wrong yesterday is half of the fun. No good at it, but I kill some dumb ducks that fly too close on occasion. Should kill more of them....need to head to they eye doc and bust some clays.

I’m absolutely worn slick...still tired 2 days later.

martys layout blinds have been good to us...but time to upgrade.  I bit the bullet and ordered two invisilay blinds from Rogers yesterday...last years model is on sale.  it doesn’t make sense to try and buy layout boats for all of us.  I’ve got a final attack we can bring if the youngest goes with us.

will use the boat to get in...then setup the blinds...then hide the boat...and hunt out of the blinds.

next year we’ll be more ready for them

good luck when you go...have fun
