jdmidwest Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 Looking out the window at the bird buffet this morning and I have some new visitors. Not sure what some of them are. The orange flank white breasted one is skittish. The red top bird is a wood pecker of some sort, but different plumage. I think the black one is a starling, but feeds with the wood peckers. Hard to ID woithout my book because immature colors. We enjoy seeomng the tohee's but they like dense brush. I am sure needing feed at this time they will be venturing out to find it. Nice pictures JD thanks. jdmidwest Posted February 14, 2021 Author Posted February 14, 2021 Never really see a lone starling, a group passes thru every now and then. The Tohee is pretty, but does not like it around the others. Seems to be a loner. Busy day at the feeder. Less than zero with over 20 mph winds here. Dutch Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 That is quite an array of birds. We don’t have enough trees to draw that variety.
jdmidwest Posted February 14, 2021 Author Posted February 14, 2021 Here are a couple of more unknowns. Red phase sparrow? Don't know what the yellow headed one was from the other day. jdmidwest Posted February 14, 2021 Author Posted February 14, 2021 They are eating like hogs. Filling feeders up every day and dumping on ground since snow. Suet cakes replaced every other day. They do like the trees, they offer protection and roosting areas. I have pines and cedars for the roost areas.
