Johnsfolly Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Drive one of the elk tours in or near peck ranch. Great scenery and in evenings will see lots of deer and maybe some elk.

Curious about floating to the St Francis. what JD said. I've lived in the area my entire life and never heard of anyone floating it. Several people fish it through private land access and say it is good fishing. PM me and I will tell you about a spot pretty close to there that has some pretty good fishing that doesn't require a planned float.
Gavin Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Arcadia area is nice...Not sure if the Arcadia Academy is still open. Was a good spot for lunch or some ice cream, walk the grounds, etc. Lester's in Lesterville is worth a stop to eat, pick up supplies etc. Did not make it down this year. Lots to see in the old lead belt. St Francis & Black R. drainage is mostly frog water other than the shut in stretches. Shut in stretches are allot more fun to float though. If you have the right water level. Fishing is hit or miss, but have caught over 12 species in a day on the St. Francis. Good panfishing, good catfishing, bass only fair.
jdmidwest Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 Oneshot would like Bailey Joe's in Arcadia, some Coon A ss cooking there. Good BBQ too. The old civil war fort, Johnson Shutins, Elephant Rock, several iron mines, Taum Sauk Mtn and the pumped storage facility for Ameren, old lookout towers, Council Bluffs, shops at Caledonia are all in a 30-40 mile radius. Fort Davidson is where I would stay in Ironton, old friends from college days have run it a long time. Good, clean and reasonable. Across from the Civil War Fort. oneshot Posted February 21, 2021 Author Posted February 21, 2021 As I said floating is out me with one arm. I like fishing anywhere but promised my wife no fishing. We was going with Airbnb for over night but my wife said being as we are just running around be best just to get a room at a motel or whatever. Thinking first part of April catch the Dogwoods in bloom. oneshot
