A guy on another forum pre-ordered a Rivian pickup.  He claims he paid $70,000 for it.

Yes, they start at around 65K or so.

Ford had me bring a load of Rear Ends to Detroit. Had me call every two hours. This was before Cell Phones.

Talk about a pain.

No kidding one shot. I had a kid run a red light a few weeks a go and I t-boned him. they were on the fence about totaling it because of the cost of fixing it. But the market price is so high. They decided to go ahead and fix it. Which is what I wanted to begin with. It's hard to find a good, used, late model Ford pickup right now.

The Rivian trucks are kind've ugly if you ask me.  I just looked at their website, but couldn't find any good information on how many miles a charge will last.  I could only see the 140 miles extra range on a 20 minute charge at one of the 600 stations they are building --- but for Rivian owners only.    What does that cost?  Is that a subscription deal?

They will go 300 miles, or 400 miles if you pay 10K more.

Very impressive stuff.  Is it like a cell phone though?  The first year you own it, it holds a full charge all day long.  By the 2nd year, it is only about half of what it was when new.

And I really struggle with the "green" or the true carbon footprint of EV.  Most of our electricity still comes from coal-burning power plants, right?  What are we gaining here?  I'm all about reducing emissions, sustainability, and saving the earth, but we're trading one fossil fuel for another.

So if it takes a special "charger", how much is it going to cost to have one of those chargers at your home?

Add in losses in the electrical distribution system.
