Indian Creek 5/22-5/23

Saturday we had a very, very brief 10 minute opportunity for top water. I thought for sure the cloudy rainy day would mean maybe 2 hours of fishing top water but we ran down all my honey holes between Indian creek and point 6 and only had a handful of activity.

Sunday I thought with the change maybe it might be "normal" but it was not. I am not sure I saw any activity. I avoided any major runs and staying right between Indian Creek and the Dam just watching. Since I didn't have anyone with me, I took the fly rod hoping to catch something and spent a lot of time casting spots I've had luck before with no results.

A buddy of mine has been camping at Indian since Thursday.  Friday they got 3 stripers and some smallmouth, lots of top water activity, and then the bottom fell out Saturday and Sunday, very little activity.

Are you guys targeting strictly top water? Wonder if the fish have set up on humps and points yet or are scattered. Did you try throwing any sub surface lures later in the morning? We’ve got a place around point 5 and the fishing has been pretty good but haven’t been out in a couple weeks. Sounds like Striper’s have already found their way back toward that end of the lake

I'm strictly looking for active top water fish. I'm looking for splashes/swirls and hoping I'm close enough to toss to them or that its sustained long enough I can sneak up to them. I'm certain someone could fish subsurface and catch fish and I saw multiple boats with planer boards out.

I like the fact that I can be back home by 830 or 9am. Don't have to fight the crowds and still have the whole rest of the day.

I was in a large creek off the main lake near the clifty area on Sunday morning and there was some insane topwater striper activity until around 7:45.  I hooked 8 but only landed 2 in the 12 pound range.  Also caught a few whites and spots that were mixed in.  When I was out on the main lake, I saw zero topwater activity.  Only topwater action I saw was 1/2 way back in 2 large creek arms near channel swings.  There were a few other boats around targeting stripers and I saw each one land a few fish trolling planer boards with shad but there was always a guy on the bow with topwater in hand ready to fling it.

I took my niece's husband out for a few hours Saturday afternoon. We launched at Indian as well. Saw maybe three fish bust the top. I have a fly rod ready to go too if a shot appears. I caught a few short brown fish and a 2.77# green one. My nephew(?) got a short LM/K to the boat and it came unpinned.  I got SM on jerkbait and the LM on a Plum Zoom Lizard. David got his on a lizard as well. We had lots of follows and short strikes on numerous different baits. They were pretty non-committal. Tons of minners jumping around. WT was 69, one of my bosses said it was up to 72 in that area Sunday. Water was gin clear and absolutely beautiful.
