Dutch Posted September 6, 2021 Author Posted September 6, 2021 I got to thinking about experimenting without having to buy and wait for delivery of some ewg Ned heads so I dug around and came up with some 1/0 wg worm hooks. I made a sort of Ned rig. I am going to try it out tomorrow morning. Seth, Jadesjigs, BilletHead and 1 other 4
Mitch f Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 I have another good idea for you to try the same rig with a slightly different weight. A weight that flows freely up and down. It’s called a free rig "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

I made a threader put the bullet sinker on my 6# line and pulled 6 strands of living rubber through it to keep it in place.
Members Jadesjigs Posted September 6, 2021 Members Posted September 6, 2021 @Dutch I think that rig will work well. Here is a link of a friend of mine who catches some monster smallies on St. Clair with the EWG Ned. He has some awesome content!! Btw @Dutchthanks for all of your informative posts. I have learned SO much from them!!
Terrierman Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 There's a guy on here who's a pharmacist and occasionally fishes a ned rig. We call him Super Dave. He used to make and sell jig heads. The piano wire heads were just simply the best. Jadesjigs 1

That will let me know if I want to buy my own mold. Terrierman and Jadesjigs 2
Dutch Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 I have ordered some of Jadesjigs with the ewg hook. That should give me a chance to see if I want to make my own later. Johnsfolly 1

Smallies love it. It's more of a shakey head presentation than a true NED rig to me though. Regardless, it definitely works and I can throw in a lot of places I wouldn't dare throw a true NED rig. I've won more $$$ in tournaments on that little lure this year than anything else now that I think about it. Throw it on a 7' medium fast action spinning rod with 10# braid and an 8-10# fluorocarbon leader. I use this rig when it's warmer and go back to a true NED rig in 1/8oz or lighter when the water gets cold. The brand that I've used the most is Flatlands Custom Tackle, but it looks like there are several brands making the same style of jighead now. This is the Flatlands Custom Tackle head. Thrown on your sissy stick more than likely lol….. I saw you nail a nice Smallie at the buzzer on that setup lol Seth 1
Smalliebigs Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 I bought a Ned mold after I couldn’t get anymore from Dave as have always liked his the best no doubt. I bought a mold that takes a very sharp Owner hook and altered the mold to accommodate a wire weedguard. I must be using heavier camo brown wire than most as I never get hung with that thing ever. I don’t tournament fish so I have no need to have to be able to catch some fish as the Ned/Shakey will most definitely do. I rarely ever fish a Ned anymore at all as I force them to eat big baits or just enjoy the scenery. Seth 1
