So it looks like my answer is that none of you have used them yet.

Wonder if you could use some nylon guitar string or piano wire and rig some up Richard Gene style.

That’s way too labor intensive for me.  I just choose what ever vinyl covered cable I want and mold it into the jig head.

Are the EWG Ned hooks you are talking about these?  Seems being able to Texas rig them would work out pretty well making them weedless/snagless.  I'm not sure that lead keeper would play nice with elastec though.  I'd be clipping that off and just use some superglue like I usually do.

They are touted as being pretty weed less.  I lose a lot of Ned heads and want to change that.  I’m thinking about getting the mold as soon as Victory gets the hooks back in production.

My question is, have any of you used a wide gap Ned head?  If so how weed less is it?

A 3/16oz EWG NED head with a 2/0 hook paired up with a Z-man Big TRD is one of my go to lures when fishing gets tough . Smallies love it. It's more of a shakey head presentation than a true NED rig to me though. Regardless, it definitely works and I can throw in  a lot of places I wouldn't dare throw a true NED rig. I've won more $$$ in tournaments on that little lure this year than anything else now that I think about it. Throw it on a 7' medium fast action spinning rod with 10# braid and an 8-10# fluorocarbon leader.

I use this rig when it's warmer and go back to a true NED rig in 1/8oz or lighter when the water gets cold. The brand that I've used the most is Flatlands Custom Tackle, but it looks like there are several brands making the same style of jighead now.

This is the Flatlands Custom Tackle head.

I’m interested in any brand and how they are doing.  DO-IT mold company has teamed up with Victory hooks.  They have made a mold and Victory has the hooks.  They are behind on production and I have time to do some research to see how that wide gap is functioning before I decide if or not to buy it.  As far as I can find out only Victory hooks fit and it is projected that November will be the delivery time.

Ahhh, the Big TRD, didn't know it existed, but that looks like it has potential for sure combined with the Flatlands head.

I don’t blame you…this is my biggest gripe about most EWG’s.  The hook point is in line with the line tie and direction of pull with virtually no gap.

I've never had an issue with it on the Flatland heads and the light wire 2/0 EWGs. Once you catch a few fish, they start to bend out a little bit anyways. You definitely wouldn't want to throw them on tackle much heavier than what I mentioned above. I'm sure somebody makes a version with a stouter hook if needed though. When I'm bit, I just reel down and pull in to the fish and they are pinned. Those light wire hooks are like a need through their jaws.
