Members gwh Posted November 15, 2021 Members Posted November 15, 2021 Anyone know what the boat and barge is doing at the dam? Looks like a power unit sitting on the barge.
Members mo ridgerunner Posted November 15, 2021 Members Posted November 15, 2021 According to the hatchery manager there is to be a work project done over the next 2 yrs to update the hatchery runs and other projects in the hatchery. They want to get more water running in the hatchery and runs as I understand it The barge is a crew doing seismic studies for construction of a new "screen" of the stream water into the runways. The current screen clogs up with leaves and weeds when they cut weeds. If you are at Bennett Spring during catch and release ask around to see if the hatchery manager, Ben Havens is working or during the week. Very nice young man and from my experience Ben will take time to explain the program.
Members mo ridgerunner Posted November 15, 2021 Members Posted November 15, 2021 My understanding is a 2 yr work project updating of the hatchery runs and other hatchery projects. Similar to what was done at Roaring River. This has been a planned project for several years according to Ben Havens, hatchery manager. If you or anyone else who might be interested, and is around the park on Wednesdays, there is a group of people tying flies, drinking coffee, and "losing the big one" in our conversations. Bring your vise and materials and sit and tie a few flies. We are there 9 am to about 12 noon. We are at the old hatchery building, the drive at the end of the stone bridge, see the sign on the bridge. Ben usually comes through and visits with us. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
jdmidwest Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 When did they put the locks on the Niangua to get a boat and barge up there? MOstreamer 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members gwh Posted November 16, 2021 Author Members Posted November 16, 2021 Looks like they are putting a coffer dam around hatchery intake.
fishinwrench Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Ok, I got the lowdown today on what all of this is about They are fracking where the swimming pool is/was, pressurizing it, and piping well water to the new hatchery building. So it's "fracking" with compressed air....but for spring water instead of natural gas. Allegedly this is being done separate from the aquifer that feeds the spring. A similar thing was done at the Callaway nuclear power plant to cool the rods, if I remember right. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

If that hatchery was operated anywhere near its fullest extent.....just imagine what we'd have 🤗 They won't do it though, so don't get your hopes up. 🥺

Interesting having less with more. Use to be more bigger Trout. Now it is like they don’t care. oneshot
