Question for you graph boys. I bought a used Crestliner this past spring that has a small 5" Lowrance graph on it. Trolling motor is a 24v Minnkota Terrova with the transducer in the head. There is a cable that allows one to use a Lowrance. I went to Bass Pro the other day to possibly upgrade my bow graph to a Hummingbird, which Minnkota is tied to i guess. Wanted a bigger screen with downscan and sidescan. Guy told me i couldnt do it. All i could use with that trolling motor was 2HD using a Hummingbird or a Lowrance. Unless i wanted to mount a transducer to the trolling motor but highly recommended NOT to do that with spot lock. Wires get all messed up i guess. He said my only option would be to upgrade the trolling motor. Is this correct info? Guy sounded very knowledgeable but i am a 69 yr old clueless tech guy. Thanks boys and have a Happy New Year.

You can do it.  When I had to go to an Ulterra I was running Lowrance units.  I put a total scan on the Ulterra with a Transducer Shield and saver mount and a cable mount from Precision Sonar.

Kind of Highjacked Dutch's thread, but here is some really great information I also picked up from these guys.

If your running a Ghost or a Force 24/36 trolling motor. Buy a single 24V. 100AH lithium battery to run the troller and 1  series 31 AGM 100AH to run your starting battery and electronics.

Your dumping a load of batteries and weight and losing no performance  That 24 will run either one of those motors 16 plus hours of continuing operation in any weather condition.  Saw different boats they were running that configuration with up to six 12" graphs, on one if them.

Not every series 31 agm will run today’s electronics and start an engine.  I was running 3 Lowrance units having trouble.  A battery was toast in a year.  I switched to 3 Solix units and a battery was toast in a year.  I had two different shops look at the wiring and setups, no change.

The only battery that has worked for me is the X2 which is carried by Batteries +.

Yes you can do it but it is for sure not the best way. Also why would you want it on the bow, you would have to sit up there and run the trolling motor at 2.5 mph and that would be max speed or above for the Ulterra or the Ultrex.     Hummingbird says the boat has to be moving 3 to 5 mph.

Were your series 31 batteries the 100AH or the 63AH?  These pros are saying the 100AH has no problem running the electronics 8 to 10 hours a day.

Might have been fibbing but I looked in the bilge at the set ups and that's what they were.

I never suggested that it is best but it wouldn’t cost him thousands of dollars.  I mentioned it because he was told something for a fact that wasn’t.

I guess I need to get rid of my 8 ft pole I check depth with and get a 8 oz weight and 50 feet of line.Time to forge ahead.

Remember when I asked what if you had more money than you could spend. 😀😀😀

You could hopscotch from Lowrance to Hummingbird to Garmin back and forth to keep up with the Pro's😜😜😜

Happy New Year to all and enjoy all your new toys.

Yes, the ducer in the motor head is just 2D…I run the SI and DI on the stern and just 2D up front but have everything networked which allows shared waypoints and control of the trolling motor from each station.

Mike

Same here with my Birds, Mike. In fact, my front unit is a 958 (same as 998 but without sidescan). Pretty sure I do have downscan on the front, though.
