Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 2, 2022 Root Admin Posted February 2, 2022 Starting this conversation to see if anyone else is seeing the same thing. We've bought 12 new Amana's last year. Through the wall units. We're already having issues. One almost caused a fire last week. We bought one of the splits for our laundry a few years ago. They're supposed to be the cat's meow... but we started having issued - not coming on, not heating. Our long-time tec who sold us all these units can't find out what's wrong. He said he can't get good info from the company (s). and he's quit selling new units because "all of them are junk". He's about to retire and is only doing repair. With all the new houses/condos being built now, I wonder if we're going to have a big problem with getting a/c to work, fixed, parts shortage and all of it.
gotmuddy Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 What brand mini split?? Everyone I know with the mini split systems love them. The Riley's use them in their bunk lodge everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Devan S. Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Amana is owned by Daikin which also owns Goodman. I'm not a fan. What tried to catch fire?

What tried to catch fire? Best I can tell is a switch or something went out and the units stayed on when it should have shut off, overloading the circuit. Ryan said the electricity "backed up" and should have tripped the breaker. But we had a 30 amp instead of a 20 amp and it didn't fried the plug black - and was still running when we discovered it. It would have caught fire if we didn't check. We've checked and changed all of our breakers since. The split -
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 2, 2022 Author Root Admin Posted February 2, 2022 Happened with one unit but our A/C guy said it's something that's he's seen happen with other units - same part going bad. And of course the part is hard to get.
JestersHK Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Phil, Robs fixed a few of these in our hunting cabins and can generally fix most everything like this stuff. Mr. Fix it he is. I'll see what he has to say. @BigHandsRob

MrGiggles Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 We went through all kinds of trials and tribulations with the Lennox mini split in my place. They replaced the main board 3 times under warranty. Eventually we thought to check the input voltage. I think Lennox says max 5% deviation or something like that, and at times our power would stray from that quite a bit. Power company adjusted the voltage and it's been fine since. -Austin
