Johnsfolly Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 @budman that sounds like a great time. I always enjoyed any trip to the 11 pt. I love catching those pickerel and those shadow bass aka goggle eye even more so than the many trout that you see in the river at least up towards Greer.
jdmidwest Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Sounds like a good trip. October is one of the best months to float it. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Terrierman Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Great trip and a nice report. Glad all worked out for you the way it did,
Mark Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Glad you had a great trip. I've camped many nights at Sticking Pond gravel bar. It use to have many shade trees and a really nice gravel bar until the big flood a couple yrs ago. Downstream from Riverton to the Ark line is very good smallmouth fishing, and some people catch walleyes. Scenery isn't as pretty as the land flattens out some. But The Narrows area is beautiful with 4 springs very close to one another. Now, don't spread the word in Okieland too much.🤫
2sheds Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Next time you might want to consider a night at the Morgan Spring Float camp (downstream of Riverton) with takeout at Myrtle (at AR line). One of my favorite campsites. Plus a nice walk up to the spring and also up the hill to the Narrows Overlook. Terrierman 1
budman Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 We sure saw a lots of feral hogs and sign along the river. We saw maybe 50 total, a group of at least 15 came out of the trees while we were eating lunch the first day and hung out along the waters edge for 10-15 minutes. Saw several smaller groups and a couple sows with piglets. We could also hear them each night around our camps. Are people not allowed to hunt them along the river because they didn't seem to care much when they saw us. They would run back into the woods for a couple minutes and then return after a short while.

Report to the MDC where you saw them for a possible try at eradication. 573-522-4115 or https://mdc.mo.gov/feral-hog-sighting-damage-report
Mark Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 We did see a local last trip who said he was hunting hogs. MDC says don't shoot them because it will cause them to scatter more. They want to trap them and relocate. Not sure I buy that theory.

Not sure I buy that theory Nobody should buy that theory, it's BS. 🙄 They are social creatures just like almost everything else. They might scatter when attacked, like a school of fish, but give them a bit to calm down and they'll get right back together. I'd love to know the real reason why they keep saying that over & over.

Why is it BS? Beyond what you think what specifically causes you to say that? Studies etc? I'm genuinely curious.
