Most people don't realize that outboard motors are very near the top of the list when it comes to "High Performance" engines.

who is running their outboards at 5-6k rpm for hours at a time?  The only people I can think of are offshore fishing guides, who never have fuel sitting in their tanks more than a day or two.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

I always wondered why say a 3 cylinder 2 cycle 1000cc outboard powerhead only turns 5500 RPM and produces 60-75hp, while that same powerhead in a snowmobile will turn 8500 rpm and make 100+ horsepower. The outboard needs to do it under 100% load continuously.

I never said anyone did.

I don't even drive my vehicle for hours at a time.  But if I drove it at 5k+ RPM everywhere I went, there'd likely be engine problems. 

That was the point I was attempting to make.

Probably has to do with where the HP (torque) is measured from. 

Outboard HP is measured at the propshaft.   There's no propshaft on a snowmobile. 😅

My side by sides dont normally sit that long but occasionally they will sit for a month with regular gas in them.  my wifes runs 5-7k rpm basically any time its running those motors will turn 10k rpm tho

They all pull fuel from the bottom of the tank or very near it.

I don't know...I think I can run my honda  civic at 5k all day and, and not hurt it :grin:and it's more funner...not really.

A dude up the road here got a car similar to a Civic that he zipped around in what sounded like 1st gear all the time.   It lived less than a week.

I asked that because the one time I was fueling while a tanker was dumping and it took three tanks of gas and a whole can of Seafoam til my engine ran right again. I thought it was tanker related, but could have just been a crappy pump.
