6/28 Cape Fair

My neighbor and I went down this morning.  Last trip we had 8 spinnerbait fish so I had 3 tied on.  We hit some of the same water and some new water.  Not even a feels good.  We were in 8-10 fow and I was seeing all kinds of stuff on 2d and down so we pulled out to 14 and started using Elaztech worms on my diy EWG Shaky head which is very similar to the ones that Jades Jigs has.   We used the 3/16 and 5/32 mostly but 1/8 sometimes.  We caught fish immediately and often.  When we left that area we had 28 with 4 keepers.  It was his turn to pick.  We went to his bluff and had 12 more with an additional 2 keepers.  I picked the last area, another bluff.  My bluff gave up 12 more with 1 keeper.  So we finished the day with 52 bass 7 of which were keepers.

We also had 4 goggle eyes and a nasty old flat head.  The air was 64-84° and the water was 82-88° on my Birds.

Thanks for the report, Im meeting an old high school buddy down there tomorrow, hes not a big fisherman, got a few neds rigged up. And the trusty ole drop shot for around the Bridgeport pillars

We put in at 7 and took out at 11. What a great day to take someone who doesnt fish much, we had close to 30 with 0 keepers. WE stayed busy though, caught them on every lure I threw. Walking bait this morning, neds, shakey, deep diver, drop shot, and i caught a whole bunch on a megabass jerkbait, who says a jerkbait only works in the winter???? The jerker came in handy under the bridge, they were piled up in between the pillars about 5 ft deep. Livescope was a big help.   Hardly any boat traffic at all, Only 2 trucks in the Bridgeport neighborhood ramp.  Last summer if you werent there at daylight you may not have a parking spot.   

Thanks again for the report Dutch, our most productive things were neds and shakey heads. We went all the way up to Mccords Bend. Water is pretty nasty up the river, a brownish tan with all kinds of nasty bubbles on the surface, but that is where we had the best bite.  

If anyone has some kids that want to catch them like crazy i bet you could put a night crawler on a drop shot under the bridge and catch those little spots all day.

I haven’t gone above Carr’s yet.  It was nasty around there.  Even from Martin Hollow down the boat was covered with a layer of brown mud.

 I am trying to muster up enough energy to go back but they are calling for 100° days.  That’s hard on old fat guys.

I haven’t been back to know.  However, with the lack of rain and the distance from the dam I can’t imagine there being any current unless you get above McCord bend which I don’t do.  As for clarity I hope it is still dingy like James is supposed to be.
