BilletHead Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Colorado biologists aim to find Yellowfin cutthroat trout thought to be extinct (thedenverchannel.com) ness and grizwilson 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Quillback Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Grows to 10-12 lbs. You have to like that. Hopefully they can find some. BilletHead 1
ness Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Pretty cool! That would sure be something if they’re able to find some. I’ve got the Behnke book that was written about 20 years ago. He mentions a sliver of hope that they could be found. They evolved in Twin Lakes and were lake dwellers. Twin Lakes was later stocked with rainbows that hybridized with the cutties, so it’s unlikely any pure ones are in there. There were yellowfin eggs sent to other areas in CO, France and Germany, but who knows what ever happened there. Like the article mentions, possibly in the Twin Lakes tributary streams or in an isolated stream or lake that was stocked. BilletHead 1 John

Cover Wrench's ears but if they do find hybrids there may be some breeding work to get close to if not the original genome.
fishinwrench Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Whatever happened to the Cutbows? Does anyone, besides me, remember the Summer that they were stocking them at Bennett? And know where they came from? Some of them were pretty hefty.
