kjackson Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 We are heading over to Augusta this week to a meeting for my wife where I'll have four free hours. Is Feather-Craft worth the two-hour round trip from Augusta? Since I already have enough flies, materials, hooks and gear to last a lifetime, I'm wondering if I'd be better off doodling around the St. Peters/St.Charles/O'Fallon area instead of fighting my way into St. Louis traffic. And if anyone has a great recommendation for a BBQ joint, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!
ColdWaterFshr Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Its a nice shop as fly shops go, but not worth the 2 hour detour unless you have other stops to go with it. T. Hargroves is much more of an immersive experience, and then go across the street and get a delicious counter-burger and draft root-beer at Carl's Drive-In.
FishnDave Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 FeatherCraft and T. Hargroves are both great shops. Very different atmospheres, but I like them both. And they are really close to each other (just a few blocks, 0.7 miles), so maybe visit both, and there are BBQ places along Manchester Rd. I've been to Bandana's BBQ and The Hangar, both 0.7 miles west of T. Hargroves.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 If you go to st charles Salt and Smoke bbq is good. Both fly shops are ok. I buy from both. Just like any other retail outlet.
Gavin Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 I wouldn’t drive out of my way to visit either but I live within two miles of both. Lots of flooding in Brentwood down by FC today, and I’m sure it flooded over by Trainwreck Saloon to. It’s been a mess with construction on that section of Manchester and I’m sure it’s a much bigger one now. kjackson, snagged in outlet 3, FishnDave and 1 other 4

kjackson Posted August 1, 2022 Author Posted August 1, 2022 Well, that was an interesting trip. Since the only reason I had to visit a fly shop is to buy a set of guides for a rod I'm re-wrapping, I decided to head to St. Peters and hit Costco, Hobby Lobby (looking for a specific braid in a color I didn't buy last time) and then hit somewhere for lunch. The problem I had was that the mapping program on my phone had laryngitis or at least wasn't speaking to me, so I had to try to juggle the phone to watch the map while driving in traffic, and that meant I had to stop a lot to double check my location. Costco didn't have the two things I was after, and Hobby Lobby apparently no longer carries that braid. Sigh. By the time I stopped wandering the aisles at HL, I had to head back to pick up my wife. I need to lose 15 pounds, anyway. Johnsfolly and fshndoug 1 1
fshndoug Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 I am still waiting for it to rain so I can wear that jacket I bought from you. kjackson 1
