jdmidwest
What do you do in Missouri when the heat index is hitting over 115? Head south to Tennessee to better climate. Loaded up the truck and ended up in Union City on the outskirts of Reelfoot Lake. The fish were kinda thin. Turtles and other creatures had been suffering from drought. There were herons from another world. Some of the critters looked kinda mean, but not fed well. All bones... Like the last trip, there was some space travel things. Even Angels. The locals had old and new building structures scattered about the area. No electric vehicles. Discovery Park of America. Nice little air conditioned Museum that offered 3 hours of inside stuff, or more and 80 acres of outside stuff. jdmidwest
Nice little place. I have been wanting to take the Grandkid down since my buddy talked it up. It has local history, a huge collection of Indian Artifacts from the area. War museum from the Civil War to Desert Storm. Many tanks, helicopters, planes, even Fat Man and Little Boy. Several Torpedos and missles. Natural History, and some culture. A few theaters you can watch special exhibits in for a fee. Reasonable food and drink. The grounds have several different areas to walk thru all around a man made stream. Alot of effort into this place, its a day trip for sure. https://discoveryparkofamerica.com/ Johnsfolly, Daryk Campbell Sr, nomolites and 1 other 4 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Daryk Campbell Sr
Interesting you should post about this. We went Wednesday. this was a spoke reel made from a bicycle rim. About 1920's if i remember correctly. Some vintage lures. a sample of the arrow heads on display. I really enjoyed the facility. It had so much more than I was expecting. These are only some of the things that I found interesting enough to post. Many military items from a helicopter you can explore completely, to a tank along with a HumVee. Cars from all decades in a well kept indoor collection. A video discussing Little Boy and Fat Man along with what I believe were replicas. Even a room with all kinds of torture devices if that is your thing. The rooms were large. The building did not look like much. jdmidwest
Lots of interesting things shoved into one building. Nice collection. I see the Reelfoot boat really caught your attention. It was used a long time on the lake. Reelfoot dam has a small display and a raptor park there. TN played a big part in the WW2, many airstrips for training and POW camps along with Fort Campbell, Milan Arsenal, and Oak Ridge. Oak Ridge made the fuel for Fatman and Little Boy. West TN, SE MO, and NE Ark had many airstrips for pilot training due to the flat terrain.
