As my vet tech daughter would loudly tell ya, a maltipoo, cockapoo, labradorite etc are nothing more than expensive mutts.  They are not an AKC registered breed, but some if them are bred well and are very nice dogs.  Apparently growing up I (and later her) had a lot of heck maybe they were designer mutts, we just considered them dogs.  Only a small percentage of the dogs that got dumped near our house survived the rigorous application procedure to be allowed to live at our house.

A friend of my daughters has a pair of Ultra High Dollar foo-foo dogs.  They are dumber than a box of rocks, and uglier than a muddy 4-wheeler.   

Makes me wonder..... What's the point?

I bought Orion one of these today 

Spent 3 hours setting it up, and another 2 hours trying to gently teach him about where his boundaries are without letting him get zapped too hard.    Decided it was time to cut him loose......and THERE HE WENT!   

Took 45 minutes to coax him back into the yard.  

Got pissed and set the stupid thing to MAX, walked him over to the boundary and he crossed it totally unscathed.   I pulled the collar off, spit on my hand, grabbed the probes, and it felt weaker than a 9v transistor battery.   Set on the highest setting, mind you.   Give me a break 🙄 

Grabbed my Voltmeter from the shop and tested the voltage....... 6.2v.   Are you kidding me?   That wouldn't stop a squirrel, much less this high-powered hound.     

I want my 266.00 back !    What a waste of time!

Sounds like a PETA collar.  A good collar will stand up ANY dog, and at a good distance.  I’ve not messed with those ultrasonic jobs, but the collar itself should function independently of the gizmo and once tripped get your boys attention..

The reviews on it are good, and I've studied all there is to know about it,......but this thing is weak.    Maybe defective?    I dunno, but it's worthless.

I would say defective.  It should have lit him up.
