Went to an estate auction today. They had a few firearms and lots of ammo. I was interested in some 30-30 and 410.

30-30 was $45 box, 170 grain. and $36 box

410 was $37.50 box.

Crazy high to me, but maybe I’m out of touch due to having a safe full.

Crazy times equals crazy high. Unbelievable at times. Shotgun shells same way. Waterfowl hunting has become a luxury for me.

It's not economical to hunt small game anymore, is it?   Over a dollar to shoot a bird with less meat on it than a hotdog has in it.

By the time a person gets proficient with a firearm they've already spent enough money to feed themselves for life.  🙄

If I had a dollar for everytime I've squeezed a trigger I could easily retire and buy an RV.

No kidding guys. Most of the ammo i have, I’ve had for several years buying up the stuff that friends didn’t want. The thing that got me today was those new guns I purchased a month or so ago were not calibers that i had ammo for, so i ended up buying some 30-30 and 410.

I bought a box of stuff that had 8 or 10 knives in it. Haven’t made it home yet to look at them closer, but a few look nice. Nothing a collector would want, but a hunter would.

They had a Remington model 700 in 243 with a bull barrel and Vortex scope that is almost exactly like one i have. I thought if it was priced fair  i would consider it, but it brought $1250.

I did buy 8 sets of climbing sticks for stands for $25 a set.

Overtons in Clinton has 125gr & 170gr .30-30 for $27/box. I've still got 5 boxes of Rem 150gr Core Lokts & kicking myself for not buying ten times that much, back when I bought it at $15/box. I've been stacking powder, primers, brass, projectiles & ammo since Sandy Hook. Even have dies & components for calibers I shoot & have ammo stocked up for, but don't yet reload. Not stacked quite as deeply as I would like, but not too shabby.

We've got to get our food preps tightened up next, specifically planting fruit trees & getting a garden in.

That’s a good deal on the sticks, you could make enough money to cover the ammo and still have a few left.

Mike

That was the thought Mike, as i really only need 3 sets. Couple of decent sets in the pile.  It will probably end up like a lot of times. I mention it to my brother, and the next time i go to find them they are gone.

The irony of this thread is staggering.  People have been panic buying ammo for decades now, as seen in the comments here.  How on earth would you expect skyrocketing demand to result in stable prices?

It’s only as stable as the market will allow. Ammo, real estate, and for the past 2 years, vehicles have all been one of the commodities that if you snooze you loose type of things. Tho i have ammo, i am in no way a hoarder, tho i should be for those family gatherings where we might fire 2000 rounds that day.

Market's gonna do what the market's gonna do. I've been reading the writing on the walls for years & bought what I could, when I could in anticipation of an economic or societal collapse. For the procrastinators or those new to shooting, I feel bad for ya, but ant vs. grasshopper & all that.
