I think I have been going about this wrong.

I was thinking I have better luck on Blue Cats getting my Bait off the bottom. So I tried heavy weight with a Float holding the Bait up.

Just thinking why not use a Slip Bobber not only this but many other places.

Hey this is only taken 69 years.

We use that setup also for fishing in the surf.

Photo of a clearnose skate caught on that set-up.

When I target blues on Truman this time of year, it's in a cove with the wind blowing in.  20' deep water with bait at 6' and 12' fishing with the noodles for float and a red solo cup full of concrete with a wire loop on top for an anchor.  Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 oz weight on the dropper to put the bait in the zone.

It works.  Now and then you can find wipers or whites on the bank in that same cove.  Windier and nastier the weather the better.

Had the best day of blue cat fishing of my entire life this late Summer, while trying to learn how to fish big flutter spoons for bass.    Only caught one decent bass....but absolutely loaded the boat with nice fat blues.

With Livescope and handful of Dixie Jet spoons you can seriously put a hurtin' on the blue cat population.

All of those were holding 4-6' off the bottom in 16-22'

I'm talking about finishing from the bank.

I hate to tell ya this...... but if you're targeting Blues from the bank on a lake or a stretch of tailwater, then you're probably gonna fail.

You could study a topo map and find a few places within casting distance from the bank that might up your odds a bit......but getting to those pieces of bank without a boat is more likely to be a real hassle.   Location is way more important than keeping your bait 4' off the bottom is.
