Now it begins. Mizzou about to lose Lovett to the portal.  They are thinking Burden stays but it’s just about to turn crazy.

High School and player development is going out the window as the kids can transfer at the drop of a and I would say dime here but in reality it’s 5 and 6 figures.

NIL now rules. As crappie as Texas A$M was last year their NIL was assessed at $60,000 per all 81 players average.   That’s was the highest average in the country at over 4 million. This year that is expected to double

The top schools are expected to have a 10 to 15 million NIL budget.  USC.

Some are saying we might see a school with 20 million in NIL.

Lovett will be a 1/4 million plus type guy, maybe more.

I agree Bill. I know i am in the minority but paying these college kids was appalling to me. Most of these college athletes at the D1 level will never have it as good as they do while in college. Free tuition, free books, free lodging, free food 24/7. Fly all over the world in first class airfare and stay in the best hotels. That all ends when they leave. Now we want to pay them? The major argument was how much money these kids made for the ncaa. I really dont care. We already have professional leagues. You want to make money? Dont go to college. Go pro! A Texas A&M booster gave every offensive lineman 50 grand to come to A&M. How does MU compete with that? In the end the rich will get richer.

We've got UA athletes doing some TV commercials here locally.  I'm sure that the first thing top level recruits ask these days is how much NIL money will I get if I come to your school.  There's just too much money to be made in college sports, can't blame the players for wanting a piece of the pie.  Scray thing is there's no salary cap like you have in the pros, no limits on what a school can throw at a kid.  And now that the genie is out of the bottle, there's no putting it back.

I, for one, am totally embarrassed at the comments Chuck Barrett made about Missouri. I'm sorry, guys ... I didn't say it but I am compelled to apologize on behalf of our state and Arkansas journalism as a whole. I started working at the statewide Arkansas Gazette in 1979 as a sports clerk and continued on there to become a sportswriter of some note. Spent 16 years in sports before transferring over to the news side.

If Barrett can say he just never liked Missouri, I can say that in my limited time around him, I never cared for Barrett. He certainly isn't half the man (in any way) that the late Paul Eells was (picture below).

Chuck Barrett on Missouri Football and Facilities

Barrett’s response to the caller’s query started innocently enough.

He praised Nashville (Vanderbilt), Knoxville (Tennessee) when the Vols are rolling and added Tuscaloosa (Alabama) and Athens (Georgia) “do it in a way that nobody else does,” and even gave some love to Baton Rouge (LSU).

But, Barrett continued, “I guess if I had to pick one place I didn’t like going, it would be Columbia (Missouri).”

Barrett mentioned that the frequent cold weather during the sports he calls for the northernmost SEC campus is one reason, but was only heating up at that point.

“Guys, I got to tell you, maybe I’m the only one but I’ve developed a sincere dislike of Missouri,” he told co-hosts Tye Richardson and Tommy Craft.

Why?

“I don’t think they take their sports seriously. I don’t think “it [just] means more.” They act like they’re a little bit better than those of us in the southern corridor, let’s just put it that way. And I’ve just never cared for them.”

Barrett added that he’s disappointed in the level of sports facilities development he has seen from Missouri in the decade the Tigers have been in the SEC.

“I don’t think they’ve progressed very much. When I see their facilities, and I’m sure they’ve done some things here and there, but there’s not anything magnificent. There’s no Baum Stadium [Arkansas’ baseball stadium], there’s no Fred Smith Football Center. They don’t have things like that, and I’ve wondered why because they got plenty of cash rolling in now.”

Barrett made sure his listeners knew he wasn’t ragging on any specific Mizzou alumni here (Lord knows Arkansas football fans appreciate Bob Holt and Barry Odom), but that “I’m just saying I don’t care for their program.”

I know my Dawgs are rolling again this year! I think it’s obvious there are no “super” teams this year . Georgia and Bama were better last year. It’s wide open as far as the national championship goes although if they play their best Georgia should take it. I think K State will beat TCU which means Ohio St will get in and that’s a shame because they got their axx handed to them last week.

The powers that be are never gonna short the illustrious Big 10 when it comes to the playoffs, and especially THE Ohio State University. Too big and slow (i.e. white) to compete against SEC teams; nevertheless, it's not FAIR to load the playoffs with too many SEC teams. Look forward to expanding to 12 teams in 2024 so most of the whiners can get in and get their butts kicked in the early rounds and then we can get on with the real business of crowning a champion,.
