bobby b. Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Fished the lower end yesterday from 7:30 am - 10 am. It was not as good as it was in previous days but I was able to scratch out 5 keepers and one short - all Spots. One fish (pictured) went close to 3 lbs. WT 47 degrees - 2.8 kitech on a damski head worked the best. Secondary points and a little bit inside the creek/cove. Bobby cheesemaster, big c, Dock-in-it and 4 others 7
Dock-in-it Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Bobby, can you show a picture of the Damiki head that works with a 2.8. I bought the Damiki brand heads with a 2/0 hook and their 2/0 hook is the same size as a Gamakatsu 4/0. Damiki also has heads with a 1/0 and I am guessing that might work for a 2.8 as well as a Damiki 3" Armor shad.
bobby b. Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Dock, both 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz have 2/0 hooks (see pic) - I was out for just one hour early this morning before Church - caught one Spot but had 4 or 5 disconnect just after the bite - this has been happening lots this year - I changed to a sifter tip and tried waiting a moment to set the hook. It doesn't seem to happen with the Mooneye hooks. Quillback 1
Dock-in-it Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Bobby, the Damiki heads have a heavy duty hook and the Mooneye heads have a nice light wire hook that penetrates much better on the hookset. There is probably a knockoff brand Damiki style head that has the proper light wire hook.
Dutch Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I have a mold that makes that type of head. If you guys find a hook that suits you I could pour you some heads. Bassin4fun 1
Bill Babler Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 The finest wire hook you can get is by far a much better penetrator. Everyone misses some deep bites but a lite wire hook really helps. On another front Keitech makes a ball head for swimming its small swim baits. It has a Daiichi hook and it’s really sticky 196champ and Quillback 2 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
