oneshot 1 Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Does anyone grab on the Niangua River? I never see anyone but see a lot of Giggers. oneshot
tjm Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 are the giggers wading or boating? I haven't seen anyone grabbing any fish anywhere since the 1980s. Those old guys all died, and around here the accesses they used are all closed.
oneshot 1 Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 Well the water is clear and some banks are high. I have hooks and all. The only time I really seen then running was in the Pomme de Terre river. oneshot

Had some guys from MDC laughing at me. People don't eat them like they use to. oneshot tjm 1
Terrierman Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Nixa still has Sucker Days but they don't cook all that many suckers anymore. Grabbing is still kind of a deal down here. Finley, James, Bull Creek, Swan Creek and Beaver all have a lot of suckers and I've seen people grabbing.
mic Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Excuse my city slicker question... does grabbing mean hand fishing?

fishinwrench Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 I took an outdoor writer on a smallmouth float once, and there were suckers on the bottom of the slick water runs, easy to spot because they were putting off cloudy spots behind them. He started casting just above the cloudy spots and brought 4-5 to hand on a Rebel wee craw crankbait, and snagged & lost several more. The ones he brought to hand were all caught in the mouth.....So they will chase and eat lures tickled along the bottom... SOMETIMES. I've tried force feeding them flys 1000 times since then though, and have never been successful.

Likely didn't want to make if too difficult for folks to know what you were talking about 😉. That's why all three species of rock bass are called goggleyes or most sunfish are called bream😅!
