Yep. Hell of a drive to get some worms!

I'm working in St. Peters so I drove over tonight to check it out. My absolute favorite bait is a floating worm. Those Shark Fins might be perfect for that. Going to be a couple of months for prime floating worm time but I will give them a good shot. Maybe you can get us some pink ones by then. Or maybe I take a sharpie to one of these white ones? Great looking baits though, and a really good price. You might be underpriced.

Those Shark tails weren’t made to float, but you could do a light finesse hook set up maybe. They seem to excel around the spawn. They work great on a shaky head or a drop shot. Guys have been cutting the bigger ones in half and say they are a great spinnerbait or chatterbait trailer.  Also if you’ve ever done a Donkey rig (double fluke rig) they look amazing. The tail movement is key to this bait. One of the LOZ guides wants me to do a Tequila Sunrise or Morning dawn color for it. It would incorporate your pink as well as some purple.

Mitch, you got a mention in the Bassblaster email.  And so did OA.

"Mitch Fields started Tackle Max Lures and yep one of the fist baits is a hellgrammite.

Thanks to ol' bud Keith for the heads up. Can't link it, it's at forums DOT ozarkanglers DOT com"

Sure glad to see Mitch back in the lure business.  His original HD Craw design was a game changer, and I have no doubt that these lures will also be great.  The Shark Tail looks terrific in the water from the video I saw.

A good floating worm doesn’t float. It’s a stupid name or maybe I’m just stupid calling them that. I use different hooks and different lines to control the sink rate. From the video they look like they will work.

Now I’m going to have to try one out ASAP.

So I tried one of those shark tails out as a floating worm. I didn't have much time and I didn't go to a good spot, but one where I could watch the worm. It worked as well as anything else I have used. There are some differences in the Zooms I have used exclusively for this the past 30 years or so.

One, the heads are heavier on the Shark than on a Zoom. Obviously, since the tails are much smaller than the head. But the Zoom is a little more evenly balanced when you need a slow level descent. But they aren't so heavy on the Shark that they do a nose dive. I'm sure it could become better balanced, if needed, with heavier line.

Second is that tail. I like the little flips at the end of a tug. That could convince a follower to eat it. It will almost "swim" during a long slow pull.

I didn't get any love from the fish for the 25 to 30 casts I made. (3 of those were real good too) But I wasn't expecting any either. Just a quick lunch trip so I could see one in the water. But Probably the main reason it didn't get bit is because it was white, not pink.

That's a real nice worm you have there Mitch.
