Quillback Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 Fished out of my friend Ken's boat today. Some stripers were coming up early, but by 0730 or thereabouts it was over. Ken's son Kellan (Not sure if I spelled it correctly), caught one good striper and 3 smaller ones. His dad and I did not do so good, we picked up a few smallmouth. I had a couple of striper blowups, but could not connect. Kellan's striper blew up on his topwater, missed it the first time, but came back and exploded on it the 2nd time and the fight was on. It made my day just to see that fish blow up like it did. Lance34, dan hufferd, Terrierman and 4 others 7

AR Huzgr Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 Nice fish! I need to try for some of those this week, never fished for them as they didn't have them up north where I moved from. Mostly main lake? Or up the river arms a ways?
Members breeves2245 Posted May 14, 2023 Members Posted May 14, 2023 I just dropped my travel trailer at Lost Bridge North campground. Going to hang out there on Quillback creek, I mean Indian Creek, for a few days and see if I can do any good. Mainly seeking LM and SM bass but I won't complain if I hook up one of the drag screamers! BilletHead and Quillback 2
MarkG52 Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 @breeves2245 I was planning to fish up that way tomorrow but it's looking like the air may be as damp as the water. Quillback 1

There's some in the area around the dam. I like to go on calm mornings and look for top water activity to locate them. I don't think that the bulk of the fish are in the dam area however. There are certainly enough to fish for, but I'd bet there are more somewhere else on the lake. Terrierman 1
Quillback Posted May 15, 2023 Author Posted May 15, 2023 Talked to Ken today who went out this morning with a buddy of his. They boated one they estimated at 20 Lbs. and broke off another on a mishandled netting that they think went 30 or more. On top water baits. Top water bite ended fairly quickly. Best to get out there early and hope you find them soon, at least if you want to catch them on top.
Devan S. Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 I've been out 3 times over the last 3 weeks and have yet to find anything on top. Its good to hear its finally coming around. time to break out the long rod and try for one.
