Squirrel season has arrived. Number six for the season is a youngster and got him early this morning. Not venturing far from the house right now the ticks and chiggers are horrible

. Today's lunch,

Right to the noggin as planned. Should be good they are going hard on mulberries. Today's preparation is my favorite for the young ones. Spatchcock them!

Simple prep of a little salt on each side and I dredged it in a combination of flour and some of my smoked serrano dust. Then a quick cook in some goose fat.  Nothing but bones left now.  Yowza

Wow!   I worked with a guy that bought the generic ones from Walmart and during summer put one on each boot. Claiming he never got a tick or chigger.

Here is part of the tick problem @Quillback. It's the critters in the yard

At least he didn’t wear it around his neck! 😂

Oil is the best tick deterrent that I've found. Kerosene, or diesel ect.  soaked rags around boots, or oil legs arms ect. with baby oil or sun oil, mineral oil like going to the beach. But  if you want ticks dead use permethrin on your clothes and put those tubes of permethrin soaked cotton out for the mice to use in their nests. Mice and ground nesting birds are where most ticks live out the first phase of their lives. (seed ticks/larvae)  So many deer, rabbits, ground hogs ect.  in my yard that nothing will keep the place tick free, but permethrin spray works best there too. (well almost as good as the lindane fruit tree spray that we used to get)
