I have caught them on a 4" piece of white flat shoe lace, you can cut 4" off one end of the shoe lace, drop an 1/8oz sinker inside tie your line below the sinker so it won't come out. their teeth get hung in the lace, you just drag them to the boat, but don't set the hook because there isn't one, that is tough to do.

I got on a gar kick years ago....but thankfully I got over it. 😅 

The rope thing was frustrating.  A #6-8 hook worked way better for me.  The smallish hook tends to find something to bite into better.

If the bass aren’t biting I’ll try for them with a some kind of weightless white feathered streamer. They snap at it reflexively if you pull it past the side of their head.

I would say that my hook finds purchase in that face about 2 of 10 strikes…

Im not a fan of the slime so if I’m on land I usually pull the hook and let them do that slither back into the water on their own..

I’ve had a few dudes lately tell me that they are good eating.. I looked it up. It’s a thing.

              It is a thing and not bad when eaten hot right away. If it gets cold, it is tough and rubbery IMO.  Pain in the arse to clean. Hacksaw and tin snips. I have done that.  There is a new way that I seen many years ago at the United Bowhunters of Missouri. Winter gathering.  A thin cable inserted from under neck to rear right under skin. With a thin piece of metal is how inserted. Leave in cable and remove tool. Grip cable at one end and use the opposite end to cut through belly scales to opposite end. Basically, unzip the gar. Then use fillet knife to remove skin on the round. Only meat is the backstrap. Chunk it out.

I've always said I was gonna eat one, because the meat truly does look good, but I've never actually done it.   

I figure I'll just save that meal for the potential future apocalyptic event, since in the wake of a ELE, should I survive, I'll probably still be able to find some Gar.

Do you ever think about that?   The only reason that people can't tolerate certain other people is because there are too darn many people out there.   

If the world wasn't so full of people then you'd be happy to just meet another person.  ANY person.    Democrat/Republican, Baptist/Atheist, wouldn't matter.

Maybe so.  I’ve come to realize I hate people so if there were less of them I would be happier.   My wife is getting mad at me because I won’t go anywhere anymore.  But I have noticed that she is hating more people too.   So I’m winning 😂

I've been that way for quite awhile, and I catch flack for it all the time....I don't care. 

I love to go on road trips, but at least once every week or so some idiot will start blindly veering into my lane, even though I travel less than anyone I know.  Head-on collisions happen almost daily everywhere. 

Driving is more dangerous now than it has ever been,, and it makes me a nervous wreck.  All of those people out there just don't seem to understand....or care.
