AR Huzgr Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Probably been a month since I last was out. Nice weather this week brought me out of the A/C. Launched from Prairie Creek in a.m. and targeted walleye with bottom bouncer and crawler/spinner rig. Fished main lake structure depth 23-27 range. Water temp 83.7. Caught 5 walleye (biggest was 18). They were aggressive and just grabbed the bait (no finicky eaters today). Dining with the walleye were some nice channel cats. Caught 6 total cats with one 8 pounder, followed by a 4, then the rest were in the 2 lb range. Only had a dozen crawlers so was done by 11, but by then, the black flies found me so time to go! Was good to get back on water. Quillback, nomolites, bfishn and 3 others 6
bfishn Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 5 walleye and 6 cats on a dozen crawlers = doing something right (or darn lucky). 😉 Quillback 1 I can't dance like I used to.

Quillback Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 That's some good fishing! I was out today in my buddy Jeb's boat, can't say that we came even came close as far as weight - we caught a dozen bass, but the biggest one might have gone 13". Great morning to be out however, big old full moon early and cool temps that felt really good. AR Huzgr and bfishn 2
bfishn Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Yeah, when I saw that moon at 4:30 I was seriously wishing I had been out there all night. Quillback 1 I can't dance like I used to.

Old age has turned me into an early riser, my night fishing days are done. But that moon when I walked my dog at 0330 was like a spotlight it was so bright, would've been a good night for fishing. bfishn 1
Members Phil S Posted September 2, 2023 Members Posted September 2, 2023 I fish walleye on Beaver only in the summer as it’s convenient to our lakehouse in the Pt 5 area. I have a been a little disappointed so far this summer compared to previous years. I am not getting to go a ton, so it may just be the way they are biting that day, but I’m not seeing fish just stacked up in my normal honey holes like years past. When I do catch them the bite it so light it’s hard to get them hooked up. I lose a lot of them and the ones I get in the boat are barely hooked. Not sure if anyone else has experienced the same. It’s hard to be a judge though based on going once or twice every couple of weeks.

I agree with you , I fish that area also and my hot spots in years past aren’t holding fish like normal…..last trip caught 6 keepers ….never measured this one , just took picture and released it. I did think it took longer than last year to get on summer pattern but who really knows . On the light bite days, I have to switch to jig and crawler and open bail which is the old school way I used to fish for them up north, but not my favorite way to fish. Never tried leeches here and not sure where I'd get them if I wanted to.

I bought 20 dozen on eBay once, used them all in one Aug-Sept stretch. Gills and cats were all that would eat them, but crawlers were fine for the eyes. Still don't get it.
