Quillback Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Fished with Dutch today, we were on the water by 0700, a bit chilly early, mid-50's but not too bad. Turned into a really nice day, it was in the low 70's when we left at 1230. Water temp was 71-73 for the most part. We caught 17 bass that were worth mentioning, plus a handful of micro-dinks. Got most of them on jigs, a few on worms, and a couple on Keitechs. The Keitech fish were deep, 40 feet down near the bottom off a rocky point and that was the only place we caught any on the swimbait. The jig and worm fish were anywhere from 10 to 30 feet deep, and as Dutch said: "The rockier the bank, the better". Never found them in bunches, just picked one off here and there. Mostly main lake and just inside the coves, did not try any backends of the coves, but did see a couple of boats working in the backs. Lots of little shad on the banks in places, but nothing chasing them. Did not see much top water activity at all. I threw a buzzer for a bit, and the bass did not show any interest in it. We had 4 keepers, two of them were smallmouth, 2 were spots. We also caught a couple of short 15 inch walleye. Only a couple of pleasure boats out there today, and just a few other fishermen. Couple of sycamores by the ramp getting that fall look. AR Huzgr, STLbassbuster, nomolites and 8 others 11
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Ill add on, over all yesterday was good, we caught them on buzzers and walking baits really good 9 keeps for the day, once the topwater bite died off we threw jig in no more and 10ft and had a good time, lots of bites. We fished the USA bassin. Kinda of a crap show at weigh in. People were pissed about the weights. They weighed the laundry basket with a board on top to make them quit flopping. example: my big was a 3lb and the weighed it as a 6.96. they said it was because they were on the end of a dock and the waves made it read goofy. It was so inconsistent with weights i dont even know what to say. I saw a few that were definite bigger than mine so i didnt say anything, lots of whispers on the dock though, people were not thrilled about the weigh in process Quillback and snagged in outlet 3 2
Dutch Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Andy there wasn’t a top water bite in our area. We both used them and even had a blowup. Thanks for the trip Jeff. I enjoyed it. Quillback and snagged in outlet 3 2
Quillback Posted October 10, 2023 Author Posted October 10, 2023 The Homer Sloan was last Saturday. I heard that it took 20 lbs. to win. I did some searching to see if I could find the results, but could not find them.
Bill Babler Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Phil Stone said it was on Facebook. 20 pounds and someone weighed one in close to or right at 8 pounds. Glad I didn’t fish it, that would have been embarrassing. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 Weight will be in the Rattler so we’ll know for sure later this week STLbassbuster 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
