My dear friend, Rolan, passed away a few weeks ago. He was 92 years old and enjoyed good health up until he was 91.

I met Rolan the first year we bought Rosadaro resort in 1983. We fished many hours on Lake Taneycomo as well as traveling the country fishing different destinations. He taught me to tie flies.  He’s most most famous for his peppy scud. Peppy was their pet Shih Tzu. Rolan used his hair along with other dubbing to create a gray dubbing for his scuds. His technique was unique and has proven to be a favorite for our trout.

One thing I am sure you do not know is he was really big into soapbox derby with his boys. One of his sons, David, won the whole thing back in 1988. Rolan also was Director of the soapbox derby for a number of years.

Besides being an avid angler, he was a great golfer, still shooting his age a year before he passed.

I will miss my fishing buddy. But we will meet again!

A life well lived!  His Peppy Scud lives on and still is a killer pattern, thank you Roland!
