So yesterday I had an eye appointment.  Noticed some vision changes over the last couple of years and had it checked out.  Long story short, cataract surgery on left eye September 14 and right eye September 26.  I know I harp on modern medicine frequently and here goes again.  Lens replacement is done in the eye doctor's office that has a surgery center.  Total time in the office is about an hour and the surgery itself takes about ten minutes.  The only thing I'm worried about is that vice they hold your head in with the bolts in your ears so you don't wiggle.  And I hear they use toothpicks to hold your eyes open during the procedure.  Wish me luck.

AND thanks to Medicare, the cost will be $90.00 which is for eye drops to use before and after the work is done.

Good luck! :yarr:

I hope the "toothpicks" don't look like this!

If I live long enough it is in my future, the optometrist tells me the cataracts are starting to develop.  I know several people that have had it done and it didn't sound like it was a big deal as far as the procedure.

My mom had it done a few years ago, she said she had not realized how much it had degraded her vision as far as colors.  It's like you get a new set of eyeballs.

Lovey had it done a couple of years ago.  She is super happy with the results.

I had it done 5 years ago because I didn’t want to wait until it got bad enough for insurance to pay.  Which I would have been nearly blind.  $10k.  But I no longer need the bifocal glasses that I didn’t like.
It’s the freakiest thing I’ve ever experienced.   I have a phobia about anything around my eyes and sticking a needle in your eyeball while you are awake and can see it, is about as bad as it gets.  Totally painless and quick but I was crawling out of my skin.   Especially the second eye.  Now I’ve developed a case of secondary cataracts that bothers me a little driving at night.  But I’m still 20/20 and don’t need cheaters.   I wish you luck.

She says she barely remembers it - mostly talking to the doctor about camping in Branson.  And thanks for the good wishes.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking.  Better drugs, and enough of them please and thank you.  Standard line of mine that it really didn't take me all that long to learn.

Had mine done few years ago and results was great. White is now white not yellow. Couldn't believe it! Paid a little extra and had my astigmatism fixed. Can now count the leaves on a tree. Can read without helpers but use 1.5 reading glasses. Need sun glasses because things are brighter. I'm my 70's but eyes better than at 18. I hope you have as good a result as I have had. Don't dread it. They put you in a " haze" and over in just a few minutes.

I’m in year 11 since I had mine done.  I had my astigmatism corrected with toric lenses while he was at it.  It was an extra $1,000 per eye.  That has saved me a bundle with no glasses for all this time.  I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
