crittermo Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I have an old 2001 single axle boat trailer with surge brakes. There hasn't been much upkeep on it in the last dozen years. I am taking the boat out for an out of state trip for the first time in years in April. I know there's a lot of trailer dealers and boat repair shops down here. Are there any good boat trailer repair shops? My surge brakes are shot and my brake fluid reservoir has rusted through to where the cap does not screw on the reservoir on the front of the trailer. My boat is a 17 ft deep v aluminum, I don't think I need the brakes but I would just feel better if I had them. Thanks for your help

aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I had to replace my axle a couple months ago and did away with my surge brakes. They were nice when I towed with my little 2 door Jeep but my 3/4 ton doesn't really care if there is a 19 ft boat back there. Also a lot easier to change a hub on the side of the road now if need be. I would be more worried about getting my bearing freshened up if its been a while if your going on a long trip. That being said I have some extra calipers that were pretty new if anyone wants them. I had them replaced and then a brake line broke and I never bothered fixing it. from a 2004 tracker marine trailer https://trailerparts.com/products/brakes/disc-brake-parts/calipers/tiedown-caliper-46304-fits-3500-lb-6000-lb-axles-painted-black.html?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA19e8BhCVARIsALpFMgFk6C9N4DURpNclFUDcxf7ENwcvBBXNuKYPffF9yZQfkowqOFIVAUUaAso1EALw_wcB snagged in outlet 3 1

crittermo Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 Thank you everyone for your replies. I haven't been able to check the website for a while because of an illness and because I'm an old dude I forgot I even put the question out there which is basically what I do everyday is forget something! My boat, motor and trailer way less than 2300 lb so I'm pretty certain I don't even need the surge brakes just like a couple of you said. And if I do decide to do something with it I will check with the gentleman in Reed Springs. Thank you again for everyone's help! Chris Terrierman 1
